Quoting, Rates, and Carrier Availability
Which carriers can be quoted in Benefitter?
Benefitter supports quoting for more than 250 carriers across medical, dental, vision, and basic life. Carrier availability may vary by market and product line and can be viewed on our help site.
What can I quote on Benefitter?
Benefitter is designed exclusively for the small business market (2-50 employees in most states except for CA and NY where it is 2-100) and for new business only. We have rates for medical, dental, vision, and basic life plans.
When are future-year rates typically available?
Fully insured rates are generally released 90 days before the effective date, and level funded rates are generally released 120 days before the effective date.
What should I do if a carrier or plan is not showing as expected?
Please send the group name and details to support@benefitter.com so the team can research the specific case. This applies to questions such as plans not populating, rate discrepancies, or carrier-specific plan display issues.
Are more specialty or level funded carriers being added?
Benefitter continues to look for opportunities to add carriers and expand product availability. If you have feedback on carriers that you would like to see, please send that information to support@benefitter.com.
UHC Level Funded, Underwriting, and Install
How does this tool compare to SamX?
SAMx is UHC’s proprietary tool where you can only quote UHC products. Benefitter allows you to build multi-carrier, multi-line proposals. It makes it easy to quote different carriers side-by-side, along with dental, vision, and basic life.
Are the preliminary underwriting rates the same rates I would receive from UHC?
Yes. The underwritten rates displayed are received from UHC and should match the rates you would receive directly through the UHC underwriting process.
Will brokers receive notifications when underwriting or install updates require attention?
Yes. Brokers can receive notification emails when there is a response or item that needs attention. Email distribution preferences can be managed during preliminary underwriting using the Group Email Distribution List.
Can UHC Surest level funded groups be installed through Benefitter?
Yes. Benefitter supports electronic install for UHC fully insured and level funded products, including Surest.
Can brokers or UHC reps work directly in SAMxOne after a group is submitted through Benefitter?
Groups still need to be worked through Benefitter during the install process. Benefitter will provide a link to the group’s SAMxOne communication center when an item need attention, and that link will also be included in related email notifications. Generally, brokers will not see the group in SAMxOne until after it is fully installed, except when access is provided for a pended item.
Is UHC the only carrier I can install directly through Benefitter?
No, aside from being able to install UHC Fully Insured and Level Funded products, you also can install Humana ancillary products directly within Benefitter.
AI, Proposal Uploads, and Proposal Enhancements
When will AI functionality go live?
AI features such as plan recommendation and custom plan SBC upload is available today. Other AI functionality will continue rolling out through the second half of 2026 and into 2027.
For recommended plans, what criteria does the AI use when suggesting similar plans?
All plan benefits are considered, with deductible weighted most heavily. The tool learns over time, so results are expected to improve with continued use and feedback.
Can brokers upload current or renewal plans to compare against new options?
Benefitter is expanding proposal upload and AI functionality. Brokers can currently upload SBCs to create custom plans to quickly add those plans to a proposal, and additional proposal upload capabilities are planned as part of the roadmap.
When will proposal branding or customized proposal output be available?
Proposal branding and customized proposal output, including colors and images, are planned for Q3 2026.
Plan Filters, Custom Plans, and Proposal Output
Can plans be filtered by network?
Network filtering is supported where network data is available. In some markets, Benefitter may not receive network type data for every carrier or plan, which can limit filtering options.
Can I save my filters so they will remain in place?
You will be able to soon! Persistent filters are being worked on and are expected to help prevent filters or favorites from resetting after certain plan actions. This is planned for Q3 2026.
If I add a custom plan, does it remain in my permanent library?
A custom plan remains available for that specific case, but it does not currently become part of a permanent library for future cases. We are working on the ability to save custom plans to your favorites list, that will then allow them to be saved across groups.
Support and Case-Specific Questions
What should I do if I notice plan data, rate, proposal, or other technical issues?
Please send examples to support@benefitter.com so the team can review and research the specific issue. Examples are especially helpful for items like plan language inconsistencies, missing plans, incorrect proposal fields, or other support topics.
How do I edit my agent profile?
You can edit your agent profile from the top right corner of the main Benefitter page by clicking your name.
Thanks again for joining the webinar series and for sharing your feedback. We’ll continue to use these questions and comments to improve future training, support resources, and Benefitter functionality.
